Football Betting

Betting on Football

Football is by far the most popular sport when it comes to sports betting. If you're just starting out please continue to read below to ensure you completely understand the types of bets and how the lines and odds work. Check out our Live Football Lines and Odds to get a better view of how the lines actually appear.

Reading Lines and Odds

The 3 main types of football lines you will see are the Moneyline, the spread, and the Over/Under.
Below are examples of how each one would appear with an explanation of what they mean.
The Moneyline:
Bills -170
Browns +150

With the moneyline bet you are simply betting who you think will win the game. The lines are based off of a $100 bet. The minus(-) sign means the Bills are the favorite and you must bet $170 to win $100. The plus(+) sign means the Browns are the underdog and a $100 bet will win you $150.

The Spread

Bills -6 (-110)
Browns +6 (-110)
In the above example the Bills are the Favorite by 6 points, represented again by the minus(-) sign, the Browns are once again the underdog represented by the
plus(+) sign. To win a bet on the Bills they must win by more than 6 points. To win a bet on the Browns they must either win the game, or lose the game by less than 6 points. You may be wondering what the (-110) means. The (-110) means a $110 bet would win $100. Most sports lines you see are based on a $100 scale, this does not mean you must wager $100. If you choose to wager more or less the payout would be adjusted accordingly($11 bet would win $10). This is how the sportsbooks make their money!

Football Over/Under Bet
Total 45 (-110)

This is an example of what an Over Under bet, also known as a Totals bet, would look like. It is real simple, you are either betting the total points scored in the game will be over or under 45, and once again a $110 bet would win $100.
